Their is an epidemic going on with the number of children that are obese, especially in the United States. We need to take some drastic steps to combat this problem. As we all know, kids are very easily influenced about what is going on around them.I think that proper diet is something that you learn at home. If the parents are not eating healthy, can you really expect the kids to eat healthy? Kids do seem to have a high metabolism, but if kids are sedentary and not moving around much it really wouldn't matter anyway.

People in the medical field are very concerned over the dramatic rise of obesity in the youth, because they know that obesity will lead to so many health problems such as:
* Developing asthma
* Trouble sleeping
* Discrimination
* Type 2 diabetes
* Heart disease
If a child goes on to live a life with little or no activity, their lifespan will drastically be cut. We have to find ways to get our youth more active in sports and physical activity. Most kids like some sort of sports activity, but just need a little push so that they can see that being physically fit and active doesn't have to be boring.
Getting kids off the sofa
It seems that all kids want to do is ride the sofa and play video games all day long. Not that long ago most kids remained active and didn't like to be in the house so much, now it is just the opposite. We should give kids a set time when it comes to the time that they spend playing video games. Call me old school, but i think that being active in some sort of physical activity should be mandatory for the youth.
Keep kid active
Most children and teenagers should participate i at least 1 hour of exercise a day at least 5 days a week. This will greatly combat the growing problem of obesity.
Some of the exercise could include
* Football
* Soccer
* Jogging
* Swimming
* Rope Jumping
*Dodge Ball
* Running
* Basketball
As you can see, their are numerous of physical fitness activities that kids could do to get them in shape. If you can get kids off the sofa and show them how fun fitness can be, they will take these habits into adulthood. As an active adult they will also cut down the risk of a lot of diseases cause by not being active as an adult.
Diets for kids
We all know that most kids favorite foods are most likely pizza an hamburgers. That type of food will get you in a world of trouble in the long run. People have to show kids the right way to eat. Most of the food that they are serving in schools today is a big joke. The vending machines that are placed in the schools are a junk food playground for kids. They are loaded with soda, candy, chips, and plenty of other sweets that will get our kids in trouble. It has been a proven fact that these sort of foods are very addicting especially for the youth, because they tend not to look at the nutritional value of food.
Foods from the 5 food groups
* Kids need plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grain foods.
* Low fat dairy products.
* Lean meats, fish, and chicken.
* Drink plenty of water.
* Cut back on sugary drinks.
* Cut back on fried foods.
These are eating habits that will have to be developed over time. All it really takes is small changes every day that will lean to a healthy long life. The best way to keep kids from eating a lot of junk food is to just not buy it in the first place. They may complain about it, but you could give them a small treat every now and then like maybe twice a week. This will teach them all about moderation. Instead of filling their lunch box up with junk food, give them plenty of healthy choices like fruits an low fat snacks.
Its also economical to do so, because the cafeteria food prices has risen in resent years. Remember that your kids will greatly appreciate you for this in the future. How do you think we should deal with child hood obesity?
