This is a question that I have been asked a lot. It's very objectionable question. The length of your workouts depend on a lot of things. If you are a beginner your workouts are not going to be as long as someone that is a seasoned pro. On thing you want to remember is that you don't want to overdue it no matter what your fitness level is. When you first start working out I would work out no more than about 30 minutes.
Focus
Try not to focus so much on the time that you are working out, but focus on the quality of the workouts. If you are in a rush to fit your workouts in a set block of time, this could lead into an injury. So give yourself plenty of time to get in a good workout.
As you get accustomed to your workouts, I would then increase the time that you put into your workouts. If you are a runner you could increase the time that you run by about 5% per week. This way you will not be putting so much stress on your muscles by overdoing it. You want to think quality first always, your body will tell you when it is time to shut it down. Listen to your body, a lot of people ignore their body's signals telling them they have worked out to long.
Make a schedule
If time is important to you, make sure you set up a schedule.
* Could run for 20 minutes on the treadmill.
* Do some strength training for 20 minutes.
* Finish up with jumping rope for 15 minutes.
This will give you a full workout with variety, and you will be finish with your workout in less than an hour. You just have to tailor a program to fit your fitness goals and your time schedule. What are some of your routines and the length of your workouts?
