Loosen up your muscles
1. A person should never, I repeat never lift weights without a proper warm up routine. If you go into lifting weights with tight muscles you open yourself up to all sorts of muscle injuries such as strains, muscle pulls, and tears. Make sure that you warm up for about ten minutes to get your body loose. Make sure that your mind is free and clear, and you are only thinking about lifting weights. Make sure that you keep your back upright and straight when you are lifting. I see a lot of guys are jerking the weights while they are lifting, you should never do this. Always use controlled motions and no jerking movements.
Never over train
3. Weight lifting is very beneficial to the body, but to much weight lifting to frequently can lead to injury. Your muscles need time to heal because of the repetitive stress put on the. You should never lift weights no more than 3 to 4 days per week. Anything more and you are opening yourself up for injury.
Never over lift
4. You should never try to over lift weights, most people do this to try to impress people about what they are doing. Never be this type of person, you will end up in the hospital for what? Trying to impress others. Don't do it!
Make sure that you have a spotter
Now this is very critical, what if you were unable to get the weight off of your chest? What would you do? To avoid this just make sure that you have a competent spotter.
If you take the correct steps you can have many years of injury free weight training. What would you do if you was doing bench press and the weight fell on your chest because you didn't have a spotter?
