If you are overweight their may be a chance that you may have high blood pressure. You could have high blood pressure and not even know about it at all. If high blood pressure runs in your family their is a much higher chance that you may have it also. The doctor can run simple test on you to see is you have it or not. Their are many things that you can do to combat high blood pressure. So if you find out that you have high blood pressure don't be alarmed, but you will have to take some steps to help bring your blood pressure to more acceptable levels.

Who is at risk?

* If you have a strong family history of high blood pressure.

* If you are over the age of 55.

* African Americans.

* Being overweight.

If your high blood pressure is left untreated you open yourself up to heart attacks and strokes!

1. Cut back on your salt intake.

2. Maintain your current weight.

3. Take the proper medication that is prescribed by your doctor.

4. Eat foods that are low in fats and saturated fats. Make sure that you eat plenty of fruits and vegetables.

5. Start a exercise program especially if you are overweight.

6. Don't stress yourself.

7. If you are a smoker, you must quit!

8. Keep alcohol to a minimum.

As you can see high blood pressure is a serious issue that has to be dealt with. If you find out your status you can add many years to your life by taking the proper precautions. How do you plan on combating high blood pressure if you find out you have it?
