The Mediterranean diet is a diet that consist of mainly vegetables, nuts, and legumes. It's also a diet that is very high in fiber and antioxidants. People in that part of the region have a much better diet than the western diet that is loaded with so much fat and cholesterol. This is a great diet because red meat consumption is very low which is a great way to keep your cholesterol down.
Some of the food in this diet consist of
* A lot of seafood and fish.
* Whole grains from bread and cereal.
* Cooking using olive oil.
* Very little use of red meat.
* Plenty of fruit and vegetables.
* Plenty of nuts and legumes.
* Red Wine.
The good thing about the Mediterranean diet is that you don't have to live in that region to enjoy all of the great food that they have to offer. Olive oil is a key ingredient to this diet. So if you are using a lot of butter which is full of saturated fat to add flavor to your food, just switch to olive oil which is a lot more healthier for you and has a great taste.
You should also drink a lot of water, which is pretty standard in today's diets. Try to drink 6 to 8 glasses of water per day. Red wine is also known as a blood thinner and it helps prevent your arteries from getting clogged and heart attacks. It's only effective if you are drinking no more that 2 small glasses per day.
Eat plenty of vegetables
Did you know that most people that eat the Mediterranean diet eat almost a pound of vegetable per day? That's why people that eat this diet tend to have lower blood pressure than a lot of people. The great thing about vegetables is that they are very low in calories.
Just like any other diet the Mediterranean diet does take some time to get used to. This is such a great diet if you are trying to loose weight and live a healthy lifestyle.
