Why is body fat percentage so important to weight loss

If you would like to lower your body fat percentage you will need to eat a very sensible diet. When you are loosing weight, you should always strive to lower your body fat percentage slowly.


You will most likely keep your body fat percentage low when you loose weight this way. The key in this fat reduction is to use up all of your bodies stored fat.

 Reasons that your body stores fat
  1. Eating to much sugar
  2. High stress levels
  3. Not drinking enough water
  4. Feelings of depression 
  5. Not enough or no exercise
You may be wondering what is your ideal body fat percentage is?


Man's Body fat percentage table

Essential Fat          2 - 4%
Athletes                 6 - 13%
Fitness                 14 - 17%
Acceptable           18 - 25%
Obese                 25% and up

Woman's body fat percentage table                                                      

Essential Fat         10 - 12%
Athletes                14 - 20%
Fitness                  21 - 24%
Acceptable            25 - 31%
Obese                  32% and up




Keep in mind!       

You need body fat to live. Most people that you see that are competition ready bodybuilders have a body fat percentage of 3 to 5 percent. They are only able to keep that up for a short period of time. The easiest way to find out your current body fat percentage is to hop on a body fat calibrated weight scale.

  1. There's one more reason the body accumulates and stores fat- too many calories! Even if reason 5 isn't an issue, eating more than you burn through exercise is probably the biggest culprit.

  2. Aaron you are right about this! This is something that many people tend to overlook when they are trying to loose weight. People just need to break out of the cycle of not exercising and find a workout routine that is right for them.
